Hot Home design trends for 2020
The new year is already upon us, and we are all creating new resolutions, setting new goals, and seeking out new trends. Is your resolution to finally put your house up for sale, or is your 2020 goal to buy a house? Whatever your plans are for the year we will have you on the right path with these top home design trends for 2020.
Layering old with new.
Combining vintage with modern can produce a room scheme that looks as though it has evolved over many years. Blending modern trends with inherited pieces and items that have sentimental importance are the things that make our homes special. The most livable and inspiring rooms combine old and new pieces in a variety of styles to give them an effortless sense of having been assembled over time. However, it’s important to create a good balance so that the room looks elegant rather than a cluttered storage shed.
Bold monochromatics.
2020 is the year of the monochrome and it’s all about being bold! When we think of monochrome, we often think of boring greys, black and whites. However, the definition of monochrome is actually “one color” so, using any one color within a space can technically be considered monochrome. Using a single bold color throughout the finishes will make the space feel larger and will create a contemporary, fresh feel while adding some fun and creativity. Limiting yourself to a single color palette lets you explore and play with different shades. So, in 2020, forget contrast and get busy matching your walls and furnishings to create a bold statement.
Geometric designs.
Geometric patterns are easy to go overboard with, that’s why this year is all about geometric balance. You can still make a statement with bold and vibrant geometric patterns but stick with more classic or contemporary patterns with chairs and throws. Or implement geometric patterns using light fixtures or fun vases. Especially if you are putting your home on the market. Geometric bathroom floor tiles or a thin-lined geometric wallpaper with a simple pattern make a statement without going overboard. It’s all about being strategic placement and knowing what to use and where to put it.
Bold black and white.
There couldn’t be a starker contrast between colors, but the clash between light and dark is a delicious design trend that never goes out of style. There are millions of ways to incorporate this trend into your home decor. Black chairs and sofas, white throw pillows, chevron print, buffalo check, or black and white marble. In 2020, we can look forward to the endless possibilities for home decor that this black and white trend has to offer.
Rattan and wicker furniture.
These pieces don’t need to be stuck on the outdoor patio and we aren’t talking about your grandmother’s wicker here. Rattan and wicker are making a comeback and it has evolved into fresh and exciting pieces that can be used inside the home. Whether it’s a chair, table, headboard or lighting fixture it adds the perfect layer to balance any traditional style.
Natural elements.
Countless design elements are either inspired by or sourced directly from nature. Some good examples include branches, pine cones, and stone, bamboo, and of course fresh plants like fiddle-leaf fig trees or succulents. Utilize them in 2020 and don’t hold back!
2020 is looking pretty bright with vibrant colors, sustainable materials, and natural elements. This coming year’s trends will give us nostalgia, we’ll be one with nature, relax, and be bold. The most important thing to remember when you’re selecting colors and décor for your home is that it all needs to fit your tastes. Keep an eye out for new and trendy ways to decorate, but be sure to select the pieces that will fit in well with you and your family’s lifestyle.
