Coastal Home Design Trends to Watch in 2019
When we think of design trends in coastal homes, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the color blue.
But if you want your rooms to really stand out, it’s important to know that there is a lot more that goes into designing your house here in southeastern North Carolina than relying on varying shades of one color!
As we dive headfirst into 2019, your local experts on the Michelle Clark Team have compiled a few of the up and coming décor trends headed our way, so you can stay ahead of the game and get inspired for your next home design project.
Color
While blues and greens, coupled with shades of white, are often the initial highlights of home design here in the beach communities of North Carolina, 2019 will be ushering in some warmer accents to help liven up our color schemes. If you’re planning to redecorate, consider throwing in a salmon or an earthier burnt orange highlight to brighten the room. Browns are also coming back, and can be a great help in breaking up the more monochromatic look that sometimes occurs when you stick to blue and white themes.
Pattern
Patterns are a bit tricky; most people either love them or keep them as far away from their decorating ideas as possible. But when you find the right ones to suit your lifestyle and existing colors, we think patterns can be used wisely. Try starting simple: wallpaper in your bathroom, or throw pillows on the sofa. If those seem to work well with your style, you can always branch out to bolder choices, like bed linens or art prints for your living room wall.
Furniture
Wicker furniture has long been a favorite for outdoor décor, and light-stained wood is the standby for indoors in most coastal homes. But this year, you can expect to see more houses adopting metal-based furniture in curved designs, as well as darker woods with blush or warm cushion accents. You’ll find more and more pieces that serve a distinct function, but also couple as art pieces. In our area, you can expect to see more emphasis put on the handmade custom items that we know and love, bringing a local focus to the North Carolina coast.
The most important thing to remember when you’re selecting colors and décor for your home is that it all needs to fit your personal tastes. Keep an eye out for new and trendy ways to decorate, but be sure to select the pieces that will fit in well with you and your family’s lifestyle.
